Bio:  I am the Mayor of the greatest City in the most blessed country in the world.

  1. Where do you call home? Ottawa.
  2. What do you love most about it? The incredibly kind and generous people who live here.
  3. Born and raised here or Johnny-come-lately? Born in Montreal. Raised in Lachute, Beaconsfield, Thornhill, and Sarnia. I came to Ottawa in 1980 to go to Carleton and stayed.
  4. Is it a winter wonderland or summertime paradise? I like to think it’s both.
  5. What’s your commute like? It takes me about 15 minutes by car to get to City Hall or about 30 minutes by bus.
  6. What do you do on a day off? What’s a day off?
  7. It’s my first time in town. Where should we go? Definitely go see Parliament Hill, the Rideau Canal, the Bytown Museum and the Byward Market but try and go out to Manotick to see Watson’s Mill as well as the Cumberland Museum in the East end.
  8. Is there anything you’d change about it? I would like to see the Ottawa River be completely clean and I am proud that we are working hard to achieve that.
  9. Where do you go when it’s time to get away? A bike ride along the Ottawa River is a great escape for me.
  10. Favourite local landmark? It’s hard for me to choose only one, but I do love Watson’s Mill in Manotick.
  11. Best local event or festival: Another one where it’s impossible to choose only one! Bluesfest has certainly grown into something great though.
  12. Favourite local team: Historically, I would say the Ottawa Senators but the Ottawa REDBLACKS and Ottawa Fury FC are now tied for a close second.
  13. Favourite local celebrity: Max Keeping.
  14. Time to shop. Historic downtown or Big Box Land? I don’t shop often but I do like many of the local shops in the Glebe or Westboro.
  15. Favourite Mom & Pop shop: There are so many great ones but Suzie Q Donuts is a favourite of mine.
  16. Favourite local restaurant: I like Johnny Farina’s a lot. It helps that it’s across the street from City Hall. I also like the Newport.
  17. Best place to grab a coffee or tea: Tim Horton’s or Bridgehead.
  18. Grocery store or farmers market? There’s a time and place for both.
  19. Tell us something only locals know: We are the most generous city in Canada when it comes to charitable donations and volunteering.
  20. What does supporting local mean to you? Buying local products when possible and doing what we can as a city to allow our farmers and local business owners to be prosperous.

Jesse is a typical class clown. Born and raised just north of the Toronto, he fell in love with the City on school trips to the ROM and the Science Centre. He tried Vancouver for a few years, but the call of home was too strong to resist. Today he lives in the North-East Upper Beaches. (What? It’s a thing!)
