Today I want to share an amazing experience I had on FS Local.
We’ve been working on introducing some new features to our listings, and without giving too much away, I was looking into who of our partner businesses are rocking Instagram. (I happen to think Instagram is an awesome app and a fantastic way for people and businesses to connect online, so if you’re on it, give FS Local a follow – and if you aren’t, what are you waiting for?)
Right off the bat I noticed their awesome KALE sweatshirt. Playing off the classic YALE design, I knew I had to get this sweater for my wife, because she’s vegetarian and she loves to eat kale by the bushel.
So I placed the order.
First off, the price was right. But then boom, free shipping! – that’s a great start! But as nice as that was, and as awesome as the sweatshirt turned out to be, the kicker was a handwritten note included in the package.

Whaaat?! Who does that anymore? That’s service the way it used to be, and JoshuaDAVID just gained a happy customer for life!
But the fact of the matter is, as good as their customer service is, what got me ‘in the door’ and what ‘closed the sale’ was a snapshot on Instagram. I didn’t even know I was looking for sweater until I saw it, but then I knew right away I had to have it. It’s the power of Instagram and social media in general. It doesn’t take in-your-face sales copy to create desire – Instagram lets cool products speak for themselves.
And those changes to the FS Local business listings I mentioned before? Maybe you’re picking up what I’m putting down – Instagram is an amazing tool for reaching an audience. So watch this space!
